Take a look at the donations we’ve made to hospices throughout the country.
Tilt and Turn Mattress donated to St Lukes Hospice
We are thrilled to have donated a special tilt and turn mattress to St Lukes Hospice. Typically patients often have poor appetites, have lost weight and have reduced mobility. This often leaves them prone to developing pressure ulcers.
This therapeutic mattress allows staff to care for patients who are at very high risk of developing pressure ulcers. It reduces the need to turn the patient so often relieving pain and discomfort for the individual, and prevents back trauma for nursing staff. The mattress can be either static or dynamic, where air is pumped through transforming the mattress into an alternating surface, delivering additional levels of pressure relief.
ELK Lifting Cushion for Isabel Hospice
We are delighted to have donated the ELK lifting cushion to Isabel Hospice. This is an emergency piece of equipment, designed to provide a safe, dignified lift and independent support using single handed care techniques. The cushion can be used in confined spaces such as bathrooms or hallways, allowing the person who has fallen to be rolled on to it from the recovery position and then assisted to sit upright. With the touch of a button, carefully and slowly the ELK inflates the person to a sitting position.
Specialist Pressure-Relieving Mattress for North London Hospice
People who are unable to move around tend to put pressure on the same areas of the body for a long time which can lead to pressure damage - incredibly painful sores and ulcers. This can be serious and lead to severe complications such as infection or bloody poisoning.
Specialist pressure-relieving mattresses use air pumps to continually inflate and deflate sections and keep the skin moving which reduces the risk of pressure sores. This can make a huge difference to the quality of experience of every patient who lies on them.
Sara Stedy donated to the Norfolk Hospice
The Sara Stedy equipment helps patients to move from a sitting position to a standing position and vice versa, safely and in a dignified way. Where the patients have some strength in their legs, this method of moving is better than a hoist because it is more dignified and encourages the patient to use their muscles a little.
Nurses at the hospice have reported that is is really smooth to use and much easier than the traditional hoist type equipment.
4 Calendar Clocks donated to St Gemma’s Hospice
We have donated 4 calendar clocks to St Gemma’s Hospice in Leeds which are designed for use in a dementia care environment.
The clock is easy to locate as the background colour stands out in a communal area. Often calendar clocks are hard to read and have confusing layouts - there are neat and uncomplicated.
St Gemma’s Hospice now have two clocks situated on each shared by a and the clear designs of the time and the day has proved to be reassuring and re-orientating for those who are poorly and confused, especially due to spending long periods of time in bed.
Bath Cradle for Acorns Children’s Hospice
The bath cradle is designed and used to enable easy access for children and young people to the hydrotherapy pool via the ramp, enabling patients to benefit from the water, increasing general well-being and providing opportunities for exercise and relaxation.
Children and families using the hydrotherapy facilities at Acorns Hospice enjoy an engaging, inclusive experience with both physical and emotional benefits.
Chidlren with limited movement or speech often find the warm water and environment very soothing; pain is reduced and tight muscles relax - entering the pool would be a challenge in itself without the use of the bath cradle.
It is also used to shower clients who are able to sit, but need some support and provides safe, comfortable bathing for those with degenerative or severe physical conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebal Palsy, Motor Neurone Disease and many other groups with severe disabilities, unpredictable movements and rapidly deteriorating body conditions.
2 Syringe Drivers Donated to Rennie Grove Hospice
We are so pleased to have been able to donate 2 syringe drivers to Rennie Grove Hospice which provides specialist medical care for adults and children with life limiting conditions in Bucks and west Herts.
These will be used by the Hospice at Home nursing teams to effectively control their patients’ pain and distressing symptoms caused by their illness and potentially minimise unnecssesary hospital admissions, allowing more patients to remain at home for as long as possible surrounded by the people, pets and things they love.
